There are dozens of "kits" available from all the manufactures that have one quarter inch hex drive screwdriver bits in them. They work well in your screwdriver and fairly well in your cordless drill, but when you use them in your new cordless impact driver they don't last long. You regularly change them, but he next thing you know, the bits are stripping out the screws.The new impacting drivers have considerably more torque than cordless screwdrivers and drill/drivers so the current hex bits just don't work well.
To fix this DeWalt, Milwaukee, and Makita have come out with better driver bits. These new bits for your impact driver are stronger, harder and should last much longer than the tradtional screw driver bits. Of course they will work well in your drill/driver too!
Milwaukee Power Tool
Milwaukee has introduced the "Milwaukee Shockwave," Dewalt the "Impact Ready" bits. Makita calls them "Impact Driver" Sets.
Craftsman is noticeably silent in this category, yet. Craftsman is testing a rugged new design and will introduce their own sometime this year. I would like to see Craftsman completely reorganize their nut driver bits, torx screwdriver bit sets, driver bits, impact screwdriver bits, and impact driver sets.
It will take some time for this category to shake out for terminology. There will be some confusion because there is a traditional category called impact driver bits. The category refers to a tool that you struck with a hammer to loosen stubborn screws and nut. Another traditional category called impact sockets is commonly referred to heavy duty sockets used with air impact tools.
